Egg tempera and oil on panel, 29" x 24". year 2025. The Gardener is a painting inspired by my neighbor, Iris. I remember when I first moved to Pennsylvania; Iris and her husband, Joe, welcomed us with beautiful flowers from her garden. At the time, I knew very little about plants, and my New York apartment had none. Even though I grew up in a home where my mother cared for many plants, I never thought I had a green thumb myself. Watching Iris in her thriving gardens was inspiring. Her deep connection with her plants was evident, and people often came just to see her gardens—once even a bus full of visitors. I learned a great deal from her and received many plants from her generosity.
